This is a nice introductory compilation of information on witchcraft, and it doesn't focus too much on one path or another, which I appreciated. If you do follow a specific path, this may be too generalized and surface-level for your interests, but if you're someone who is brand new to witchcraft (or just interested in learning about it from the outside), check this out! There are sections on so many different popular areas of witchcraft — everything from a basic overview of herbalism and tarot, to some more in-depth sections on sabbats and palmistry — and while this definitely won't be comprehensive enough to fit all of your needs (no single book is, IMO), it functions as an excellent starting point. It also features lovely artwork and some excellent cheat sheet pages that you could easily copy down into your own grimoire/BOS for quick info. Overall, The Complete Grimoire is a general, but solid overview on witchcraft practices and paths that I would recommend to any newbie. Thank you so much to the publisher for providing me with this review copy in exchange for an honest review!

an interesting primer on various areas of witchcraft practice. definitely a good starting point for someone who's interested in witchy stuff, but not yet sure of which particular things they'd like to try. there is a huge range of subjects covered, and of course they all must remain fairly surface level, but i do think it would have been possible (and beneficial) to add some more depth to some of them. my large paperback copy has beautiful illustrations, but it also has a lot of empty space on many pages. i wish pradas had taken some of this space to provide more detail on the things she's discussing. and occasionally i wondered if the book was sort of a cash grab, or designed to promote her instagram. why are there so many typos?? regardless, i still learned a lot from this book. some things are definitely not for me (like runes, contacting deities, and the clair senses). but many of them are things i'd like to dig in deeper to (like herbalism, palmistry, and of course tarot). one of my favorite chapters is the one about the wheel of the year, which describes the eight sabbats and their histories and correspondences. what i love about witchcraft is that it puts so much power and agency in the user's hands. it's all about intention. if you want something, you can manifest it. that idea is empowering, and i want to believe in it.

This was a great guide, as beginner myself this was everything you could want. It is bright and inviting, great set out, easily accessible, to the point and plain English, nothing confusing or complicated (sometimes some guides seem to want to exclude you the way they write them) this is just som wonderfully inviting to read. I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy for myself Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

I've always wanted to learn about Witchcraft, especially Tarot. The problem was that with so many sources of information, I never knew where to start. This Grimoire was perfect. It has information about every aspect of magickal practices and spells and, contrary to other books I've read on the matter, that information wasn't vague or overexplained. This way, by just reading this book, you can find out which practices are more of your interest and start learning about them. ARC provided by Netgalley and the publisher.
Honestly, I can't wait to get a physical copy for myself!

This book was received as an ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own. I have heard a lot of anticipation from our community on the release of this book in how informative it was both on paganism and what it means to be a witch. I was also surprisingly fascinated with the descriptive section on crystals and their powers. But what fascinated me the most was the artwork in each chapter and the pretty watercolor work. This is not usually a topic that is popular with our library but, I believe our community will find this at least very interesting. We will consider adding this title to our Non-Fiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

Also available on the WondrousBooks blog. We've all seen at least one witchy movie in our lifetime - from the all-beloved Harry Potter (which some extremely strange people don't like) to The Blair Witch Project, there's an overload of witchcraft movies, tv shows, books & graphic novels, songs, etc. If you've never heard the word "witch", it's highly likely that you're an alien or a newborn. Yet, despite all the different representations of witches, media shows them with very exaggerated powers and, oftentimes, with not so good intentions. I saw The Complete Grimoire and that some readers had commented that it's suitable for people who're not familiar with modern-day magic, so I decided to find out what modern witches actually believe in. I found this book highly interesting and entertaining - from the lovely illustrations, to the simple descriptions of witch holidays, different practices and beliefs, symbolism, plants, tarot, divination, potions and much more. It doesn't really matter if you believe in witchcraft, or if you want to start practicing it, or you're simply curious, there's something to learn in either case. One of the things that I liked the most was the fact that the author doesn't go into crazy mumbo-jumbo, but rather explains her views through her belief in the connection between people, nature and energy. I was prepared for some crazy talk, but instead got interesting information about traditions, some facts about herbs, and even a few recipes which I fully intend to try out, like the apple mille-feuille.

awakening indeed! I really loved this book. It was chock full of everything, from understanding the different energies of moon phases, seasons, and the four elements to spiritual objects and symbolism. What surprised me was that this book spoke a lot to intention and the value of ritual, no matter what your religion or beliefs. Unless you do pretty much anything with full intention of what you want from it, you will most likely not get the results you want. It was just an uplifting read at the right time.

This is in no way a "complete" grimoire but rather basic information for a wide variety of witchcraft. It's a really great book to pick up for beginners but shouldn't be the only resource you read if you're interested in witchcraft. The author's writing style was really easy to connect with as they didn't try to persuade you to practice one specific way. You can tell the author is genuinely passionate about the topic and wants to educate others. My main issue was that throughout the teachings in this book, I was often asking myself "but how do I actually DO that?!" While this book is useful, it often felt like we were just scratching the surface. The author mentions several times that if you really want to have a full understanding of certain topics, you need to pick up books specifically about those subjects (and then fails to recommend any books to pick up). Overall, I learned quite a bit from this book and am happy to have read it but want readers to go into it understanding that this is not "the complete grimoire" like the title suggests. Thank you to the publishers who provided me with an ARC of this book through NetGalley!

The Complete Grimoire by Lidia Pradas Excellent introduction to Magick, Wicca and Witchcraft ~ I found the book one I would love to have on my bookshelf to refer to or to gift to those newly interested in this way of life. Why? Because it was easy to understand with just enough information for a novice without being too much. What I liked: What I did not like? Can’t think of anything at all that I did not like. Did I enjoy this book? Yes Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Group ~ Fair Winds Press for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars

I would say : for a total beginner city girl it is absolutely covering enough to get started and get to know with basics and how to implement selfcare on a more spiritual level to her life. Would recommend for sure for beginners! I am always interested in these type of books, but i am a bit more advanced level in the topic :)

I needed a Great on Kindle read to close out the Year End Kindle Challenge and thought this one sounded interesting!
And it was. I don't really have any desire to become a witch, but some of the practices might be worth looking into a little deeper.

The opening pages of this book promises a 'concise and in-depth guide of how to practise witchcraft' - and i would definitely agree with this. I loved the illustrations and tables - and I feel that I got more out of the book from the tables than the main text itself. I wouldn't exactly call myself a beginner to witchcraft/wicca/paganism, yet the style of writing in the main body of text was hard to follow. I found it very 'wishy-washy' - sometimes it went into a lot of detail and at other times it brushed over certain topics. As previously mentioned, the redeeming feature of this book was the illustrations and tables of information. This broke down the information, and allowed you to get straight to the point. The illustrations were beautiful and really unique in style. This isn't the best book I've read about witchcraft, but it certainly isn't the worst! I think there are better books out there for more in depth information, but these books i'm thinking of don't have the beautiful illustrations. So it's all about pro's and cons. The illustrations definitely make this book! If you're all about imagery then this is the witchcraft book for you - but if you want better info you might want to go elsewhere.
However, I did enjoy the bits at the end of chapters 'things I wish someone had told me' (not exactly the most catchy/punchy of headings) - in theory this was a great idea - as it would help those wanting to find out more about particular topics. I don't think it was always this straight forward though, as it didn't always relate to the things mentioned in that chapter.

August 24, 2020Book Review: The Complete Grimoire: Magickal Practices and Spells for Awakening Your Inner Witch by Lidia Pradas I want to start of by saying that this book wasn't for me, but that doesn't mean it might not be right for someone else. If a book didn't appeal to me I always try to consider who may enjoy it. Described as a 'magickal beginner's guide to witchcraft practices and knowledge', The Complete Grimoire is a place to start and it covers a range of topics related to the craft. One of the topics I enjoyed was the coverage of the Sabbats as it was one of the more in-depth chapters and included recipes that I will attempt during the celebrations. Although this grimoire covers a lot of different areas, it does so in a very generalised and surface level way. I also found it to be quite dry in the way it was delivered. Lists and tables are good for quick reference, yet I found myself skipping through them. Furthermore, I felt that the book lacked personality. Other than, repeatedly, pointing out that she is 'rooted in the Celtiberian pagan tradition' the book did not feel very personal. As someone who is further along in their Wiccan and Witchcraft journey I tend to look for books that delve deeper into more specific areas and authors that are deeply connected and passionate about their subject. Having recently read, The Green Witch's Grimoire by Arin Murphy-Hiscock (and loving it) I felt that The Complete Grimoire wasn't as helpful. It tried too hard to include everything and what I learned from Murphy-Hiscock is that a grimoire is never 'complete'; it is a continuous, evolving, extension of the Witch you are. Personally, this book offered me nothing new. I would recommend it to people who are complete beginners in the world of Witchcraft.

¡Estoy deseando leer The Path of the Witch!

It took me less than a millisecond to request a copy of this book after I realised what it was. Witchcraft?? Sign me the fuck up. And it was everything I could have hoped for. Any modern witch, baby witch, or wannabe witch should have it, honestly. It's got absolutely everything you could ever possibly need. Now, I'm not saying it goes 12 feet under in detail for every single subject, because there's not enough string on the planet to bind that book together. Instead it basically gives you a step by step guide into the world of modern witchcraft and how to incorporate it into your life. The author herself is warmly comforting in her teaching and clearly believes wholeheartedly in the craft, but still is grounded in the modern world of sciences and working towards your goals. She even has a degree in environmental science, so you know she's not completely nuts. For her, first and foremost, witchcraft is a choice made only by you, and in order to become a witch you simply have to decide to be one. I love how she talks about the presence of witchcraft in other religions, and how the two concepts are not entirely mutually exclusive - you can still be religious and a witch, or one, or the other (religions themselves may not think this, but that's from their perspective). I also love how her basis for witchcraft is always based on intent, never on skill. Like most subjects, there is just so much I don't know about witchcraft but learned from this book, starting with the many different types of witches one can be. Also, that you can be a witch who is Wiccan, but also a witch that is not! Ultimately, the author emphasises throughout the book that witchcraft, as a whole, is customizeable to each an every witch. It's also super accessible to anyone who may have an interest. Past the concept that you simply have to declare yourself a witch to be one, you can adapt and exchange nearly everything in witchcraft if you don't have the recommended supplies or ingredients readily available. And even if you can't include any physical tools and equipment, there are still ways to participate!! Like dream interpretation! And palmistry!! There's so so much to practise that I would be surprised if there was a single person that did it all. Not only is witchcraft considerate to all practitioners, but all living creatures as well. The author is always emphasising that witchcraft is never meant to hurt anyone or anything. All your actions should be considerate whether it's human, animal, or plant (you're not even supposed to banish a ghost if a bad one shows up in a seance - just get out of there, fast). I've always had a passing interest in witchcraft in my life, starting with the concept of witches in Harry Potter (although vastly different). I remember checking out books on it in the library and coming home with giant spellbooks that I would spend ages flipping through. I thought I was doing it casually for personal research, but then on the day I meant to audition for my local theatre group, I broke a mirror and found myself frantically looking for a spell that would reverse any bad luck I generated. Last year I even visited Salem to immerse myself in all the history there and ended up learning so much more than I anticipated about modern witches. Now after reading this book, I am even more fascinated in a world that is still considered to be bad juju. Everything about it is fascinating to me, nothing less than the fact that anyone can do it if they want to bring witchcraft into their lives. All you need is just to focus your intentions and let your curiosity lead the way. Honestly, this book should be far longer, but I still appreciate it immensely for all that it does. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Complete Grimoire: Magickal Practices and Spells for Awakening Your Inner Witch by Lidia Pradas is a beautifully illustrated book that will serve the needs of both the beginner and more experienced witch. As the title suggests this book is organized in a way that provides the reader with all of the staples of a wiccan practice in just the right amount of in depth exploration and useable information. The Complete Grimoire is separated into nine (9) chapters and has a greatly appreciated Index at the end for quick reference. An ending point for each of the chapters is a small section entitled Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me. Here, the author gives an extra little tidbit of information that reflect the nature of the Craft, which is one of learning as you go and formulating your own resonance with what you’ve learned to make it more completely your own. Chapter 1: Witchcraft FAQ’s dives right into commonly asked questions about practice and the Craft and dispels the myth and glamour surrounding witchcraft and identifying as a witch. Topics include coven work vs. Solitary, the male terminology used for a witch, the types of witches and their practice and more. ….. To simplify it, all Wiccans are pagans, but not all pagans are Wiccans. Most Wiccans are witches, but not all witches are Wiccans. Some pagans are witches, and some witches are pagans….1. Each chapter takes the reader through an organized process of work that involves your physicality, such as acquiring tools and preparing for Sabbats, as well as developing the subtle skills of energetic practice, meditation and visualization. I am always interested in the approach an author takes when writing about the Sabbats and how to celebrate. Chapter 4: The Wheel of the Year was one of my favorite chapters in content and presentation. Ms. Pradas begins the year with Yule and each Sabbat is lovingly treated with correspondences and suggestions for activities. A recipe is included as well to complete the connection between earth and the celebrant. Subsequent chapters cover all of the basics of Crystals (Ch5), Herbs (Ch6), Divination (Ch7) and Working with Spirits and Deities (Ch8). The final Chapter 9: Correspondences, Rituals and Spells brings all that has preceded into a palpable and usable practice. Topics such as Timing, Astrology, Candle Magick and more are presented with versatility in mind and exemplifying the resourceful nature of the Craft and the witch. The practical nature of witchcraft is addressed in defining the use and nature of talismans and amulets, spell crafting and being mindful of glamours in spell work. This final chapter provides an excellent jumping off point into deeper explorations of all of the components of witchcraft with tastings of the best pieces to whet the appetite. Would I Recommend: What I truly appreciated about The Complete Grimoire: Magickal Practices and Spells for Awakening Your Inner Witch by Lidia Pradas was the amount of information provided without the lengthy discourse on each topic that is often the staple of a book such as this. Everything that was offered was a harmonious balance of containing nothing more and nothing less than what would teach, but not detract from the simplicity of much of the Craft’s core essence. This approach lends itself very nicely to being able to jump right into the work and experience the Craft from the first pages.
I tu niespodzianka.

Ta książka pobudza ciekawość, inspiruje i pozwala zgłębić tajemnice magicznego świata.
Książka jest prawdziwym skarbem wiedzy. Oprócz podstaw magii, Pradas wprowadza nas w świat medytacji, pracy z oddechem, wizualizacji, czakrami i przepływem energii.
Zachęcam do jej lektury!

I follow the writer on Instagram and love her content. Definitely check it out!! I ordered the book last night and received it today...got to love Amazon.
Anywho, I dove into the book as soon as I got home and it is as great as I expected!! As most of us, I read a lot of witchcraft books and I feel "The Complete Grimoire" is just that, a book of many witchy topics. You get a broad amount of information on everything from grounding, candle magick, energy, runes, correspondences, you get the idea.
Whether, you are just looking "for a friend" or thinking of grabbing the book to see what witchcraft is all about or maybe your taking the big step to baby witch you will love this book. I also think a witch that's been practicing her/his craft for years will find new information in this book, too.
The illustrations through out the book are very pretty.beach time a look at one I find something I didn't notice before. The way this book is written its for real life people, its like a friend telling you about her practice. One of my favorite parts of the book are at the end of some chapters. Ms. Pradas put in "Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me", these are personal tidbits that you usually don't get to learn in a book. There's room to make your own notes to yourself in the book.
I really enjoyed reading this book, I've learned some new things and will be keeping on my bookshelf to grab often!!!

Following the author on Instagram, I was really looking forward to reading her book, and it definitely matched my expectations! Although the title could make think of a more "in depth" book, I wasn't really expecting a comprehensive tome, but quite an accurate overview on Witchcraft and that's exactly what this book is all about! The cover and artwork from the artist Nata Vedana are really stunning and remarkable, but this book is not just pretty! It offers valuable information on the most important topics on Wicca and Witchcraft.
I really appreciate that it does provide information that are not in the most of the modern books for beginners, which I find often repetitive and that can barely scratch the surface of things. Lidia has a concise and precise style that shows up in these pages too, but doesn't lack in accuracy. The book offers precious food for thought and enhance the curiosity and will for a deeper research.
I would have liked for certain topics to be more in-depth and I would have definitely appreciated a bibliography or a list of books to refer to, but as a first book from the author and as a book targeted for someone who's just started to dive into Witchcraft, this is definitely a nice read! I hope that Lidia will write more books in the future, maybe elaborating one of the topics presented in this one!
